Philanthropy

the love of humanity, in the sense of caring and nourishing, it involves both the benefactor in their identifying and exercising their values, and the beneficiary in their receipt and benefit from the service or goods provided. A conventional modern definition is “private initiatives, for the public good, focusing on quality of life,” which combines an original humanistic tradition with a social scientific aspect developed in the 20th century. The definition also serves to contrast philanthropy with business endeavors, which are private initiatives for private good, e.g., focusing on material gain, and with government endeavors, which are public initiatives for public good, e.g., focusing on provision of public services.

Beneficiaries and Involvement

Ikigai

Many people, at some point, reflect on their life so far and where they are going.  For me, it was shortly after the period when my family lost two significant members, in separate incidents, unexpectedly, and suddenly,

In my situation,  I asked questions within and of others. I researched. I had read all the religious material and had counselling but it wasn’t my faith that was the issue. I needed something that interacted with and complemented that and was neither religious nor atheist. I discovered  a map of how to achieve “balance” through the Japanese concept of Ikigai – a reason for being. I started to develop my passions. Through this I found my meaning, my self worth.  and developed philanthropic interests,

Part of my balance and purpose was the revelation to me in finding the biggest single way to get out of feeling sorry for myself. The first step was to realise I had built a cage and put myself in it. And I had the key. Secondly  I had to open the cage I was in by observing others needs, and find ways to help them, without being intrusive, demanding recognition, or expectation of reward.

No journey like this truly ends. It’s an adventure, I’m still working towards my personal ” Ikigai ” and life’s balance.  But I’m a lot closer than I was, and I will be closer still as every new day arrives.

Morgsy The Man is a nickname I am widely known as within my community and beyond and I enjoy it.  it came about when working in schools. In trying to stop the kids calling me sir, I would correct them to “Mr M#####” . Kids being kids, they shortened it to something that rolled off easier and was more memorable, “Mr Morgsy”. I decided to compromise a little and meet them halfway,  and took that as a nickname. Besides, it didn’t sound bad,  The rest is history.  After a while it was surprising to some students who only ever knew me as that, to hear me be referred to occasionally as Mr Morgan by colleagues.  “Who?”

Facebook required a surname when making an account … so “Theman” was added.

I don’t advocate becoming commonly or legally known by a different name just for the sake of it. I used the chance  to break free from shackles of past, to reinvent myself and become a new person, a better person, not someone just sailing through life. A point where I can look back and go, there is the turning point, old me/new me, new purposes . I can say I MADE MYSELF WHO I AM. In balancing that, there will always be others in your life who will influence and guide you. Be strong and think carefully about how you will let them. Will you be a better person for it?

I am who I am and I continue to try to evolve Morgsy TheMan into a better person.

Morgsy TheMan is now legally registered and I own the rights to it.
