Philanthropy

the love of humanity, in the sense of caring and nourishing, it involves both the benefactor in their identifying and exercising their values, and the beneficiary in their receipt and benefit from the service or goods provided. A conventional modern definition is “private initiatives, for the public good, focusing on quality of life,” which combines an original humanistic tradition with a social scientific aspect developed in the 20th century. The definition also serves to contrast philanthropy with business endeavors, which are private initiatives for private good, e.g., focusing on material gain, and with government endeavors, which are public initiatives for public good, e.g., focusing on provision of public services.

Beneficiaries and Involvement

Ikigai

At a point in my life there came a time of deep reflection for me.  Within a very short period, my family lost two significant members, unexpectedly, and suddenly, When I looked inwards, I felt I had no true value in my life, my passion in what I did, what I was, was waning.

So I began a journey, and as you hear the phrases about searching yourself I did that. I searched deep within.  I asked questions within and of others. I started to develop my passions. Through this I found my meaning and my self worth.  Along with developing philanthropic interests, I discovered  a map of how to achieve “balance” through the Japanese concept of Ikigai – a reason for being.

I find myself ever creeping closer to my ideal ” Ikigai ” and life’s balance.

My journey continues.

I found the biggest single way to get out of feeling sorry for myself was to firstly realise I had built a cage and put myself in it. And I had the key. Secondly  I had to open the cage I was in by observing others needs, and find ways to help them, without being intrusive, demanding recognition, or expectation of reward.
